Elivia Homes hand over Passivhaus properties to Worthing Homes

11 Dec 2023

Elivia Homes hand over keys to highly sustainable Passivhaus properties in Fittleworth, West Sussex, to Worthing Homes.

Alan Kemp, Construction Director at Elivia Homes (Southern) and Paul Brough, Site Manager, met with housing association, Worthing homes to hand over the keys to these new builds which are ready for their first residents.

The new homes are part of Elivia’s Hawkin’s Field development with a mix of 14 two, three and four bedroom homes. This development is Elivia’s most sustainable to date; each property features an air source heat pump, advanced fabric insulation, hardwood double-glazed timber windows and an EV charging point.

Passivhaus properties also incorporate a Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery system (MVHR) to provide a continuous source of ventilation, as well as triple glazing. Some garages and car ports feature Sedum roofs to help boost thermal performance, improve drainage flow and encourage biodiversity. The Passivhaus standard aims for the highest levels of comfort for homeowners whilst using minimum energy for cooling and heating, with the homes maintaining an almost constant temperature. The standard prioritises low energy bills, constant fresh air, superior internal comfort, and high levels of thermal retention.

Working to the stringent standards set by Passivhaus puts us at the forefront of sustainable development and will help inform our future approach to delivering low-carbon, energy-efficient homes at scale.

“We are delighted to be handing over the keys to Worthing Homes and can’t wait for the first homeowners to move in and enjoy Hawkins Field.”

Donna Cezair, CEO of Worthing Homes says: “Having taken a keen interest in Passivhaus as a design concept over many years, Worthing Homes is delighted to have secured the opportunity to work with Elivia on these 3 social rent homes delivered in rural Fittleworth. We are looking forward to seeing how our residents can benefit from these modern homes and with their feedback we hope to incorporate more low-energy and sustainable design features in future development plans. We are so pleased that we’ve been able to provide good quality affordable housing in a rural setting for local residents and families.”
